Prototype Devlog week 5
Vertical Slice update Week 5:
The core gameplay loop of brewing, serving and customer interaction are now all functional and in a playable state. Players are now able to grab ingredients from the shelf and either drag or drop them into the mixer, players will then have to manually serve the product and get a reaction based on the order. This gameplay loop represents what the final gameplay flow would look like.
Vision Iteration:
Originally the idea was to have a game with multiple ingredients to serve and deep gameplay mechanics, but as development progressed we scaled down on our future ideas and focusing on creating the main loop and mechanics. When we have the simple mix and serve concept fully functional, improving and expanding the game will be added.
Design Issues:
Physics and Collisions:
- rigid bodies were added to the ingredients, they often collide with each other when resetting back to their starting position.
Visual Clarity:
- Adding multiple ingredients changes the colour of the product which can be confusing.
- "Finish" and "Discard" product is still in testing whether players should get the option before the brew or after the final product has been mixed.
Recipe Feedback:
- Allowing multiple ingredients adds complexity.
- Without overwhelming players, a clear system and recipe tracking so players don't lose track of what they're making.
Product Serving:
- Unsure of what the most fun and intuitive way is to move the final product from the kitchen to the counter.
- Temporarily a click and serve is what's in place.
